What is old east?

Old East refers to the oldest building on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The building, which was constructed in 1793, served as the only building of the university until the 1820s. It was originally named the "East College" and was used as a residence hall for students. The building was later renamed "Old East" after the construction of other buildings on the campus.

Old East is a two-story brick building with a Georgian-style architecture. It has a central pedimented projection on the front façade and a mansard roof. The building has undergone multiple renovations and additions throughout its history.

Today, Old East serves as a residential hall for first-year students at UNC-Chapel Hill. It is also a popular tourist attraction on the campus, with many visitors coming to see the historic building and learn about its significance in the university's history.
